Kody's actions speak clearly that he is ready for a gang life. He flashes gang signals in school pictures and ignores those who said he was heading down the wrong path. He becomes a gang member on the day of his 6th grade graduation. Kody takes great steps to become a gang member. He endures a beating, helps someone steal a car, and he is very familiar with guns. Kody even participates in a shoot out for with a rival gang.

2. Describe Kody's initiation into the gang.

Kody's initiation is painful and violent. He is beaten by two current member and then given a gun. He is reminded not to snitch on the gang and then participates in a shoot out with the rival gang, the Bloods. During the shooting, everyone empties their guns, including Kody.
