In this chapter, Kody is initiated into the Tray Eights. He endures a brutal beating, participates in a number of gang activities and eventually ends up in a juvenile facility. This lesson will focus on the Kody's initiation into the Tray Eights gang.

1). Class Discussion: Describe your reaction to Kody's initiation beating. Do you feel it was too brutal? How do you think Kody handles himself considering he is not even a teenager yet? Do you think Kody fights back? What do you think would have happened to Kody if he did fight back? Why does the gang beat him up? What does this tell the reader about future acts of violence?
