Have the students write about three wishes they would make and how they would avoid any bad things that could come from them.
Have the students write an alternate ending showing what would have happened had the third wish not been made.
Have the students write out what they would have changed about the Whites' wishes to keep them safe from the evil influence of the monkey paw. In class, have the students exchange these with each other. Have the students try to figure out how they could grant the wish in a way that would still hurt the wisher.
Find a filmed version of this book and watch segments of it with the class. Discuss with the class what could have been done differently to make the play more realistic and better done.
