John is searching for satisfaction at home and at work, but he can't seem to find it. This shows how close to the edge John is in life. John cannot find the satisfaction he craves because the people he works with are shallow and constantly bring trivial issues to him to solve. John also has a girlfriend, but he cannot seem to find a romantic balance with her. He feels that she is cheating on him, which does not bother him in general, but she is doing it on a regular basis. This begins to irritate him, especially because she constantly wants money from him. This lesson will examine the set up for the novel, and John's search for satisfaction.
