Objective

Chapters 1 through 8

Chapter 1 is titled "Chopsticks and Spiders." The objective of this lesson is to discuss titles and their importance.

Lesson

1) Class Discussion: Ask students if they pay attention to the chapter titles. Ask those who do pay attention to explain what they expected when they saw the title of Chapter 1.

2) Class Work: Have students break into groups of two or three. (This could also be an individual exercise.) Have each group make a list of at least three titles of real books they've read in which the title of the book captured their attention. Each group should also make up at least three titles of books. The content of the book is not important but students should focus on creating titles that capture the imagination of the reader. As an additional step, have the class choose the imaginary title they'd like to read.
