Objective

The beginning of The Metamorphosis finds Gregor Samsa as a beetle. There is no explanation for this sudden transformation; it simply is. The objective of this lesson is to discuss how this kind of beginning affects the narrative.

Lesson

1) Divide the class into small groups and have each group discuss what they initially thought when Gregor awoke to his new beetle's body. What did it lead you to think the rest of the narrative would contain? What kind of genre did you think it would be?
