Michael is shocked and sobers up quickly when Susan actually leaves. To Michael, this is a joke he often plays but never with expected results. Once Susan actually leaves and throws her ring, he needs to sit and take in the reality of the situation. However, he is still too drunk to follow and too proud to admit what he does is a mistake.
