Character Descriptions

This section provides a short description of all the major characters in the book. Characters

Donald Farfrae - This character manages the corn/hay department of one business, but later opens up his own successful corn/hay business.

The Furmity Woman - A shop owner in Weydon Priors that sells food laced with rum.

Elizabeth Jane Henchard - This character is first Introduced as a baby, but soon grows into adulthood. The character then marries a successful businessman who is the mayor of Casterbridge.

Michael Henchard - The main character who sustains from alcohol and becomes the mayor of Casterbridge before ill fates leave him in death alone.
