Lesson 1 (from Chapter One)

Objective

This book deals with reincarnation. The objective here is to introduce the reality of life and death and how these ideas are expressed throughout life, and especially through religious training.

Lesson

1. Allow the students to define the words "life" and "death" in short essays. Then discuss in a class forum the ideas that students are willing to share. Note the differences and similarities with the various definitions.

2. Make a list, with the class, of religions that could be researched.

3. Assign each student a religion they know very little about to research that religion's teaching about life and death. Each student should prepare a brief (2 or 3 paragraphs) report on their findings.

4. Have students do brief presentations either in front of the class or on project boards to explain the beliefs expressed by the religion they researched.
