Essay Topic 1

Oliver III tells his son that if he marries Jenny, he will cut him out of his life. Oliver walks out of the club with every intention to marry Jenny and live his own life, free of his father.

1. What would you do and how would you feel if your parent forbid you to marry the person you wanted to marry?

2. Do you think Oliver's father has motivations other than snobbery to say a marriage between Oliver and Jenny would be a mistake? What do you think those reasons might be and do you agree with them?
