Character Descriptions

This section provides a short description of all the major characters in the book. Characters

Adrian. - This character discusses how drinking ruins so many lives on the reservation with the narrator.

Samuel Builds-a-Fire. - This character loses his job on his/her birthday and begins drinking alcohol, something that this character always avoids.

Thomas Builds-a-Fire. - This character is a compulsive storyteller but remains silent for twenty years.

Crazy Horse. - This Indian is a mid-nineteenth-century Lakota Indian known for his courage in battle and for his fierce resistance to white encroachment who appears in dreams as a symbol of what male Indians had once been.
