John Gutfreund and John Meriwether have distinctly different perspectives at the beginning of the book due to their respective job titles. This lesson is on the different roles people who work at Salomon Brothers play.

Lesson

1) Class Discussion: What roles are described as being part of a Wall Street firm? How do the different roles apply to Salomon Brother's success? What is the role of Salomon Brothers on Wall Street?

2) Journal: Draw a line down the middle of the page. Label one side "Meriwether" and the other "Gutfreund." List details of each person as described by the author.

3) In-Class Writing Assignment: Write an essay on why the author's role as observer made him a good candidate to write this book. How does he author describe the proposal that Gutfreund makes to Meriwether? How does he perceive Meriwether's reaction to the proposal?
