Objective

Objective: Chapter 1, A Parade in Erhenrang Chapter 1 provides an overview of the book and introduces the characters as well as the nature of their relationships. The objective of this lesson is to ensure that students understand who the main characters are, as well as how they interact with each other.

1) Tasks, Ideas, Challenges, and Homework.

1) Make up name tags with the names of each character introduced in Chapter 1 (such as Genly Ai, King Argaven, Tibe, Estraven) on them. Make enough name tags to accommodate all students in the class, then have the students walk around and ask questions of each other to figure out which character they are.

2) Make a Jeopardy game including the characters, places, and events that take place in Chapter 1.

3) For In-Class Discussion: Based on what you've learned so far about the main characters in this book, which character would you want to be...
