Introduction | Prologue | Chapter 1

• International Genetic Technologies (InGen) is introduced to the reader as is their bankruptcy, which occurred following unreported incidents in Central America.

• Dr. Bobby Carter hears a helicopter and goes to see it land. She notes the words "InGen Construction" on the side. Ed Regis gets out of the helicopter carrying a young man into the emergency room and tells Dr. Carter that the young man was injured at the construction site when a backhoe ran over him. From her exam, Dr. Carter concludes that the wounds are from an animal, not a backhoe. Just before the patient dies, the doctor hears him say the words "Raptor."

• After Ed and his crew leave with the patient's lifeless body, Dr. Carter notices that the camera she used to photograph the wounds is also gone. Later in her room, Dr. Carter looks up the word "raptor" in the...
