The Saint Agnes Cemetary

This is where Ironweed opens, and its is the place where Francis Phelan’s family is interred, including two Phelan brothers and Gerald, Francis’ son. Francis and Rudy spend the first day of the book shoveling dirt at the cemetery, and Francis visits with his son, visiting his grave for the first time since he died 22 years ago.

The Mission

The Mission is a church-run soup-kitchen and homeless shelter run by Reverend Chester and managed by Pee Wee. The Reverend will not allow anyone drunk to sleep at the shelter, which is why Sandra is left outside in the cold to freeze to death and have her fingers chewed by dogs.
