Objective

Act 1, Prologue

The objective of this lesson is to introduce the play to the class and to analyze some elements of Shakespearean drama such as the role of the chorus and the way plays of the Elizabethan era were usually conducted. If possible, provide external source material regarding the Globe Theater and the attitude toward drama in Elizabethan society. Also, be sure to tell students that "The Life of King Henry the Fifth" is a play and was originally intended to be spoken and heard, not merely read, and that throughout the course students will be called upon to perform dramatic readings and act out scenes.
