Short Essay Questions Key

1. Describe Nin's relationship with Eduardo.

Nin and Eduardo were in love with each other from an early age, though she no longer seemed to have these intense feelings for him at the start of her journal. She regarded him as a confidante, though he insisted that they were still meant for each other. Instead of rebuffing him, Nin told him he would have to wait.

2. What were Hugo's insecurities about Nin at the beginning of her journal?

Hugo would often test Nin's limits with him, such as staying out incredibly late without telling her where he was. However, this never appeared to bother her, which, in turn, would bother him. He felt as if she did not truly care about him and often felt closed off from her creative life, realizing that he was unable to completely fulfill her as he wished.
