Object Descriptions

This section provides a short description of all the major objects in the book. Objects

Dalstroi - This was where many of the prisoners worked in the gold mines and was known as one of the harshest camps.

Gulag - This was the main camp administration and later became the name used to refer to the entire labor-camp system.

Katorga - This was a strictly regimented camp for war criminals that came about after WWII.

Kolyma - This is an area in the far northeastern part of Russia on the Pacific coast.

Komi - This is a northern region of Russia west of the Ural Mountains.
