Object Descriptions

This section provides a short description of all the major objects in the book. This can be printed out as a study guide for students, used as a "key" for leading a class discussion, or you can jump to the quiz/homework section to find worksheets that incorporate these descriptions into a variety of question formats.

Objects

The 'O' Club - Shorthand for the Officers' Club on the Marine base. The center of socialization for the officers and their families.

Toomer's Bus - The abandoned, converted vehicle that Ben's friend calls home.

The Lawn - The name for the neighborhood where the Meechams live in Ravenel. The houses here are older, gentrified Southern mansions.

Bull's Flight Jacket - The old fashioned object that symbolizes Bull's membership in the elite group of Marines. This object is given to Ben on his eighteenth birthday.
