Objective

Chapter 1 "Welcome to Thompson Park" -- Galadriel (Gilly) Hopkins arrives at a new foster home, another stop in a long series of homes.

The objective of this lesson is to analyze what is revealed about Gilly's past foster homes and how they may have caused her negative attitudes toward all foster homes.

Activities:

1. In a large group discuss the attitude Gilly has as her case worker talks to her on their trip to her new foster home. Is it easy or difficult to empathize with Gilly? Is her abrasiveness understandable? Why?
