Object Descriptions

Washington D.C. - This location is off the Potomac River on the Maryland side across from Virginia. It is the main headquarters and base of operations for all Union forces in the novel.

Richmond, Virginia - This location is selected to be the capital of the Confederacy shortly after secession. The primary goal of Lee and his army is to defend this location.

The Confederate States of America - These seceded from the United States and banded together for mutual defense against the north. They include South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, Virginia, Arkansas, Tennessee, and North Carolina.

Harper's Ferry - This is in northern Virginia and contains an important military arsenal. Before the war, John Brown and his followers attempt to stage a slave uprising from this location.
