Object Descriptions
This section provides a short description of all the major objects in the book. This can be printed out as a study guide for students, used as a "key" for leading a class discussion, or you can jump to the quiz/homework section to find worksheets that incorporate these descriptions into a variety of question formats.
Objects
Masquerade - This occurs when one wears a gender mask in accord with the demands of one's society or in order to acquire gender attributes.
The Incest Taboo - This type of taboo is thought to be the beginning of gender identification by some theorists.
The Homosexuality Taboo - This type of taboo is thought to help generate gender identification.
The Body - The relationship between this object and social constructs emphasizes not advancing theory that alienates individuals from their bodies.
