The details of Monique's abuse to Gerald are described in these chapters. The objective of this lesson will be to discuss this dark theme of abuse, why it occurred, and how it affected Gerald's life.

Lesson

1) Small Group Activity: Split the class into groups and assign each group one of the different forms of abuse that Gerald endured at some point in his life with Monique. Have each group write a short statement about their assigned form of abuse, and its effect on Gerald's life. Allow each group to present their information, and discuss which of these reasons they think is the most valid.
