Split the class into groups, and assign each group one of the countries visited by Twain in this book. Have each group present a short, but informative report about their assigned country.

Journals

Much of the information from this book came from Twain's personal journal. Have the students keep a journal for the duration of this book. Tell them they will be graded on writing in it, but it will not be read in its entirety to protect their privacy and promote their dedication to the task.
