Objective

FLASHMAN'S LADY is a novel written by George Macdonald Fraser in 1977. It is apart of a series of novels called the Flash papers. All the novels are based loosely on historical events and characters. In this novel Flashman travels to Singapore and Madagascar to rescue his wife.

The aim of this lesson is to introduce the novel.

Lesson

1. Class discussion. What do the students already know about George MacDonald Fraser? What can the students tell about the book by looking at its cover and reading the title? What do the students expect from the novel? Why do they expect these things to happen?

2. With the students look at the questions Fraser asks in the opening chapter. Divide the students into pairs and ask the students to write down five questions Fraser poses. After ten minutes, ask the students to swap their work with another pairs and...
