Character Descriptions

This section provides a short description of all the major characters in the book. This can be printed out as a study guide for students, used as a "key" for leading a class discussion, or you can jump to the quiz/homework section to find worksheets that incorporate these descriptions into a variety of question formats.

Characters

Chava - This character, who likes books and learning, is the third oldest child of the main character.

The Constable - This character is a local Russian official who is friendly with the main character but follows orders from Russian authorities.

Fydeka - This character is a young Russian who is attracted to the main character's third oldest child.

Golde - This character, who has been married for twenty-five years, runs the household efficiently. Although this character wants to uphold tradition, love of family outweighs tradition in the end.
