Stuff That Happened to Me

In the novel, Oskar Schell keeps a book of photos that illustrate experiences, concerns, and fears that he has. Have each student in class od this during the period during which you read the book, each student choosing one picture per day and creating an album of them. At the end of the period, have each student bring their book.

Lineage

The characters of Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close are all affected by their family's past. Their very inception comes as a result of the events of the Old Country. Have each student bring in a photo of a great-grandparent and a paragraph on a flash-card describing how their family settled in the United States. Post these photos and cards all over the classroom.
