Objective: Chapters 1, 2 and 3 Maria's mentality of a woman's role and the time period in which the novel occurs contrasts with the progression women have made during the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. This lesson will discuss this contrasting mentality of Maria's with the overall mentality of the twenty-first century.

1) 1. Group Discussion:
Divide the class in groups and discuss how Maria's mentality of a woman's role is narrow and lacks recognition of the progression women have made during the twenty-first century. How does Maria view what a woman's role should be and what are her own dreams in life? How do Maria's dreams compare with most women of the twenty-first century's mentality of position and success?

2. Class Debate:
Divide the class in 2 and have one side argue that Maria does not desire the rescue of a man out of ignorance to woman's rights because of the cinematic and fairytale...
