Lesson 1 (from Prologue through 24 April, 1905)

Objective

Prologue through 24 April 1905: Understanding Einstein is elemental to fully understanding the theme of the novel. The objective of this lesson is to examine Einstein's life to help understand the novel.

Lesson

1) Class Discussion: As a class, research Einstein online (using SmartBoard, or another whole class web-search tool). Have students suggest different search words or phrases to find out as much as possible about Einstein. Suggested start points would be date of birth, place of birth, childhood happenings, etc. Have students take notes on the web-search for use in a later writing project.

2) Group Assignment: In groups of 2-3, have students research the workings of Einstein, focusing on his theories and hypotheses. Have students summarize their findings.

3) Dream Journal: Research the typical methodologies used by Einstein to study his theories. Write a journal entry on your findings.

4) Homework: Read Prologue through 24 April 1905 chapters.
