Objective

The main characters in The Egypt Game had a fascination for ancient Egypt. The objective of this lesson is to gain an understanding of ancient Egyptian culture and religion to lay a foundation for the novel.

Lesson

1. Class discussion and in-class activity. Have the class tell what they already know about ancient Egypt. Write the information on a board or flip chart. Is there anything that is missing that the class would like to know about? They can research the missing information.

2. In-class activity. Divide the class into groups. Have each group research a period of ancient Egyptian history (pre-dynastic Egypt (6000- 3000 BCE), the Old Kingdom (2700-2200 BCE), the Middle Kingdom ( 2050-1786 BCE) and the New Kingdom (1560-1087 BCE). Have each group do a multi-media presentation on their time period. While the class is reading the novel, they can take note what period in ancient Egyptian...
