Back In Time
In Durango Street, novelist Frank Bonham examines the lifestyle of inner-city teenagers and their street gangs. Bonham's tale takes place in the 1960s. Students are to consider how the story would be different had it taken place at the beginning of the twentieth century and write a single page summarizing those differences.
Students are to assume the role of one of the characters in the story and orally introduce the other significant characters in the story to the class.
Letter From Rufus Henry
In the first chapter of Durango Street, Rufus Henry finds out during an interview that he will soon be going home. Students will assume the role of Rufus and write a letter home to his mother.
