Allow students time in class to view a documentary which examines the history and politics in Africa during the 1960s through the 1990s. Students may choose to write a brief paper discussing how the historical events of this time are illustrated in the memoir.
Ask students to look in their local newspaper for an article that involves some aspect of the memoir and bring it to class. They will present it in front of the class and explain why it relates to the book.
