Book on Tape

Find a recording of this book on tape and play it for the class. Have the students write about how it feels to hear some of these stories from the author's point of view.

Theatrics

Prepare a script of some of these stories, and perform them, or a portion of them for an audience. Make sure everyone is involved, whether they have a speaking part, arrange costumes, prepare set pieces, etc.

Professional Visitor

Find a professional veterinarian to come and be a guest speaker for the class. Have the students use the text to write some intelligent questions for the vet when he comes in.

Watch some portions of a dog show that show some of the breeds of dogs present in this book. Discuss some of the different character traits that they think of when watching these breeds.
