Sophie comes from a very rich and prosperous family, which has greatly affected her life. The objective of this lesson will be to discuss how this upbringing has affected her life and shaped her character.

1) Presentation of Background Information: Read aloud with the class the part that explains what Sophie's husband does for a living. Find some information about what a lawyer in a firm at that time in history job entailed. After presenting this information, have students write a short essay about how they think being married to a man in this position would affect a woman's personality. Call on some students to read their work. Discuss some of the similarities and differences in the responses read.
