Mapmaking

Can be done at home individually or in class in small groups: Make a map of the Cahulawassee River before it is dammed. The map should include colors and/or shading to indicate height and depth and whitewater areas of the river. Indicate the boundaries of the lake that will be formed after the dam is completed.

Music

Can be done at home by individuals or small groups working together: Find music similar to a style that you think might be favored by the backwoods characters in the book, and bring it to class. Play it for the class.

Art

Can be done at home by individuals wishing extra credit or as a class project to be worked on during extra classroom time: Make a collage to portray the events of the trip.
