Objective

The genre of a book is a way to sort or categorize it. "Delirium" is the first book in Lauren Oliver's dystopian trilogy. Dystopian is a type of genre meaning a society in a repressive and controlled state. Many Dystopian societies are presented to the characters as Utopian, but are not actually Utopian in the true sense of the word. The objective of this daily lesson is to discuss the genre of "Delirium".

Lesson

1. Writing Activity: Write you definition (without looking it up) of "Dystopian." If you don't know what Dystopian means, write your definition of Utopian and take a guess as to what Dystopian may mean. After you have at least an educated guess down, look up the definition of Dystopian and rewrite it in your own words.
