Knowing some background information about a book's author can often help a reader understand where the characters are coming from, and add extra meaning within the plot, as both characters and plot often reflect an author's personal life, beliefs, or morals. The author of "The Death of a Red Heroine" is Qiu Xiaolong, who wears many titles: English language poet, literary translator, crime novelist, critic, and academic. He currently lives with his wife, Wang, in St. Louis, Missouri. The objective of this lesson is to learn more about the author Qiu Xiaolong, and what aspects of his personal influence any aspect of "The Death of a Red Heroine".
