1) Class Discussion: Why do you think a writing professor needs experience in writing? Does Damon Knight have this experience? How do you know? What kind of experience does a writer need? Why?

2) Journal Entry: After reading the introduction, can you conclude that Damon Knight has the necessary experience to write this book? Why or why not?

3) Writing Assignment: Knight focuses on fictional short stories. What does this mean? What skills must one have to write short stories as opposed to novels and other types of writing? Write at least one paragraph explaining your answer.
