Have each student write a diary entry from the perspective of one of the characters from the novel, highlighting his or her reaction to or interpretation of an important event from the novel. Ask volunteers to share their entries with the class.
Make a word search with key words, dates, people, events and places in the novel. Give them out to the students for a brief fun activity during their study of the novel.
Write down events from the book; general or specific. Cut the paper into strips with each event separate, and have the students draw them out of a hat. Then draw a long line on the chalkboard. Have the students come up, one by one, and place their event where they think it should be. As a class, go over the timeline and discuss any errors/disagreements.
