Objective

Chapters 1-5

Confessions of a Shopaholic opens with a few letters from Endwich Bank to one Rebecca Bloomwood. Clearly Rebecca does not take her situation with the bank seriously. When her VISA bill arrives she does everything she can to avoid opening it. When she does open it, she insists that there must be a mistake. Rebecca works as a journalist for a financial magazine, Successful Saving. The objective of this lesson is to analyze the irony when it comes to Rebecca, her occupation, and her financial situation.

Lesson

1) Class Discussion: What is irony? Is it ironic that Rebecca loves to shop, yet her occupation deals with finance? Why is she bad with her money? Should she be a more responsible person because of her job?

2) Groups: Continue to discuss the irony in Rebecca's financial situation. Has Rebecca learned any helpful financial tips from her job...
