The Birth of America

Based on the time of Paine's works, choose three things that you found interesting about the late 1700s/early1800s. Describe what kind of an experience you think it would be to live in that time period. Would you like it? Why or why not?

Interview with a Writer

Write out an interview with Thomas Paine, including both the questions and his responses. The interview can take place at any time during his life and you can use the information in the book to help speculate his answers.

Word Association

Split the class up into pairs for this activity. Have the students read a list of the names, places, and events from the book. After each one, their partner will say the first word or words that they think of. They will then reverse positions and compare responses.
