Known as "Mr. D.," he was the principal at Columbine High School when the shootings occurred. He gathered the students on Friday before prom and reminded them they were part of a school family, then urged them to be careful and to return safely on Monday.

2. List three aspects of Dylan's appearance.

Dylan was six-foot-three, at least a little taller than most of his friends, and several inches taller than Eric. He weighed 143 pounds. He saw the worst of himself, believed that his nose was "a giant blob." His face was slightly lopsided and he tended to slouch so that he didn't tower over his friends.

3. Describe the area known as "the commons," including its purpose.

The commons was the lunch room at Columbine High School. The author described it as an "open bubble" of space near an entrance and a staircase. The decorations included a latticework of steel girders and cables.
