Chapter Titles

Split the class into groups, and assign each group one of the chapter. Have each group come up with a titale and create a titlepage for their assigned chapter.

Sailor Collages

There are many sailors who play minor roles in this book. Have the students choose one of these sailors and create a collage of what role they played in the plot. Note the differences in the displays of the same characters.

Movie Time

Show some or all of the film version of this book in class. You could include candy boxes and popcorn for affect. Discuss with the class which parts fit their idea of the narrative while reading it.

Foreign Accents
