Erich Anton Paul von Däniken (born 14 April 1935) is a Swiss author best known for his controversial inquiry of extraterrestrial influences on early human culture. The foremost of these, Chariots of the Gods, was published in 1968 and is the subject of this lesson plan. In today's class, students are introduced to Von Däniken, his focus of theory, and the controversies surrounding the author.

1) Class Discussion: Introduce the class to the author and the book, Chariots of the Gods. Erich von Däniken, a Swiss author, is best known for his controversial hypotheses of extraterrestrial influences in the ancient world. Chariots of the Gods has influenced many writers, spurred numerous documentaries, and inspired many theorists to dig deeper into the possibility of life on other planets.
