Objective

In the opening chapter Bond watches Le Chiffre and considers ways in which Le Chiffre may rob the casino. It is not Bond's job to protect the casino, but it is in his nature to consider any of his opponent's possible actions.

The aim of this lesson is to examine the character of Bond.

Lesson

1) Class discussion. What do the students think Bond looks like? What is Bond's character background? What does this chapter say about Bond's character and how does it express it? What do the students think is Bond's motivations for being a secret service agent? What influence has Bond's character had on popular culture? How different is Bond's character in the book to Bond's character in the films?
