Character Descriptions

This section provides a short description of all the major characters in the book. Selina Boyce - This character has a boisterous, bullying personality, and becomes a dancer.

Silla Boyce - This character is an immigrant from Barbados, is strong and passionate, as well as hard on family members. This character mourns the loss of a son and sells some land illegally.

Deighton Boyce - This character is confident and happy-go-lucky; but ends up being deported to Barbados, jumps ship, and drowns.

Ina Boyce - This character is gentle and submissive and joins the Episcopal Church, which this character makes life's focus.
