Objective
The students will understand the setting of the story.
“Brother, Sister, Mother, Explorer” takes place in Cuidad de Tres Hermanas, in the American Southwest. It is a tourist town, where the locals feel that the tourists are a bit of a necessary evil.
Lesson
Class Discussion: Have the students answer the following questions: What is the setting of this story? How does the author describe the setting? What descriptive language is used to draw the reader into the setting?
Small Group Activity: Split the students up into small groups and have them answer the following questions: What is the relationship between the setting and the characters the reader meets? How does the setting influence events that take place in the story? What is unique and interesting about this setting? Why?
