The main motivation in this novel is revenge, both for Jason Bourne and for Carlos the Jackal. Today's objective is to talk about the idea of revenge, what it means, and how it might play out in the story.

Lesson

1. Have each student define the idea of revenge in relation to how they would act if in a situation that might require action.

2. In smaller groups, have students discuss whether they think revenge is ever a good reason to take certain actions. Why or why not?

3. As a class, have the students describe the motivations of Jason Bourne and Carlos the Jackal as they understand them right now. Do they seem to have legitimate reasons for their actions? Why or why not? Why can't these men just let things be?

4. Homework: Have each student discuss the relationship between revenge and pride. How do the two interact...
