1. Where is the main character at the start of the story and what is he doing?

At the start of the story, the main character is in the sky. He is flying his plane, the Spitfire. The reader is not completely sure where he is coming from but we know that it was most likely some type of battle because the pilot's leg has been nearly blown off by a cannon shell. The main character is trying to make it back to his base safely.

2. What is the scenario that the main character imagines will happen when he lands?

The main character imagines what will happen when he lands safely at his base. He imagines that he will yell to his buddies what happened to his leg and they will not believe him. He pictures his friend, Yorky, coming up onto the wing of the plane and throwing up when he sees what happened to the main character and that he was telling the truth. He also imagines giving a bottle of whiskey to his friend Bluey. Overall, the main character has an upbeat, positive idea about what will happen when he lands his plane.
