Objective

This book is set in a fantasy world where magic exists.

The objective of this lesson is to look at setting.

Lesson

1. Class discussion. Could Arrow's Flight had been set anywhere? How does the setting make this a unique story? How does the setting affect the characters? The plot? The themes? Why is the setting important?

2. Group work. Create a chart comparing the real world to the world of Arrow's Flight.

3. In-class writing: Students will write a short paper on how the town in which they reside currently and attend school has shaped their lives.

4. Homework: Write an informal argument/persuasion essay taking the stand that Arrow's Flight world would be either better or worse to live in than the real world. Support your essay with specific examples.
